From Darren Snider...
Gold Prospecting and Cthulhu
Well Lindsay, you probably already keep up with me on Facebook (as with my millions of followers/fans), so I won’t bore you with the greatness that is my daily life. Instead, I wanted to drop by and show Adrienne’s blog some love (I promise she didn’t pressure me to write! Okay, so she basically twisted my arm 2,000 miles away, but that’s alright because as I told her, I’m a terrible friend and sometimes I need that friendly reminder).
Kevin is visiting back home this weekend from Washington D.C. and the awesomeness is about to be in full effect. We’re helping his girlfriend move at first, but after that it’s nothing but fun. You see, we used to watch a show called Gold Fever back in High School. It was a terribly long, low budget show on the Outdoor Channel that aired real late at night. Well, long story short, they had a kit that one could purchase in hopes of finding gold in their very own backyard streams. So after 10 years, the dream is finally a reality and we own that very kit.
Now, I’ve already used it once and found one flake of gold (probably 2 cents worth) over by Sycamore Park in Batavia. And as Tom (The host of the Gold Fever show) would say, “It ain’t much, but it sure was fun to find!” So true Tom, so true…
So Hopefully, in between the horseshoes, darts, cards, movies, drinking and singing to old country songs (and of course Dean), we’ll have some time to kick back in a creek and go panning for gold. I can hear the babbling brook now.
Another side night in my life: I’ve increased my dork factor by about 10 as I am getting into H. P. Lovecraft’s “The Call of Cthulhu” (the old horror story from the 1920’s). As you being the avid reader, I highly suggest it. It’s very short, 20 something pages but very good considering the time period. And although the Cthulhu image has dwindled down to a mere side gag in the sci-fi world today, it is cool to pay tribute to the man who created the creature that in 1926 must have been truly terrifying to the readers. I guess I’m a sucker for the Old Great Ones.
Anyway, hope my first blog attempt was at least a little bit entertaining. Hope you’re having a blast in Africa and as always, we all miss you! Be safe!
Darren

New Couch & Shreds

Dear Lindsay... It's Adrienne again. Your brother is still working on sending your shoes to Ohio. I thought I'd speed up the process by shredding all your old files. I'm half way through! I have to say, I'm impressed by your organization.

From the Fluhr Family
Monday, July 12, 2010
Dear Lindsay Caldwell,

This is your friend Adrienne writing... I created this blog so anyone you know can post blogs for you to read. There are no rules. It can be a letter, a funny story, pictures, videos, etc. My hope is that your friends use it to keep you up to date with what's going on in their life as well. To simplify things I will do all the posting. Friends and family can e-mail their posts to AdrienneCalifornia@hotmail.com or message me on facebook. I hope this turns into something fun.
Lots of love,
Adrienne
